General Liability Insurance

Coverage for third-party bodily injury and property damage caused by the contractor.

Definition

General liability (GL) insurance protects a contractor against financial loss from claims that their work caused injury or property damage to others.

In plain English

Most states and customers require contractors to carry $1M+ in GL coverage. It does NOT cover the contractor's own employees (that's workers' comp).

Example

A plumber accidentally floods a customer's basement → GL insurance pays for the water damage repairs.
